These photographs are from a 2021 trip to the site of Nancy Holt’s Sun Tunnels during the vernal equinox. The temperatures dropped every night to the single digits and our only company was the herd of cattle, many mothers with freshly birthed young. Rather than producing images of the tunnels themselves, I chose to photograph the surrounding landscape in an attempt to patch together a clearer understanding of how Nancy might have perceived the site prior to the construction of the Tunnels.
